Sustainability
One of the aims of the "Visit Wester Ross" site was to be as sustainable as possible, and not to continually rely on large grant applications or onerous membership fees in order to exist. We feel that we have acheived that, as the site has been running for some time now without any form of grant assistance.
Our actual membership fees have been kept to a very low annual outlay of only £10, and through this, the site has managed to keep itself up to date in as cost effective a manner as possible. It regularly attains over 10,000 user sessions per month (not "page hits" - these are much higher), and is linked to the Wester Ross facebook page which is gradually building a base of enthusiasts across the world.
A good number of our members are in the "Green Tourism" scheme, and several have acheived "Gold" status - this is the highest level you can attain, and is a first class accolade for the businesses involved. For further details of this scheme, have a look at the relevant website: Green Tourism in Scotland
Further to that, we have also been on several fact finding visits to discover more about what we and our members can do to encourage an ethos of sustainability throughout our membership. Further reading is available on these as below, by (you've guessed it....) clicking on the weblink: Tourism Sustainability Day, Inverness
