Wester Ross
"Celtic Fringe" is a tourism association covering most of the Wester Ross area. It started in 1997 when it was realised that the communities along the route of the A832 from Garve to Gairloch, Lochcarron, and Aultbea were becoming increasingly isolated due to the main "official" tourist route running from Garve straight to Ullapool - giving the impression that there was nothing to see in our own area! Nothing to see?
The Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve - the world famous Inverewe Gardens - The Bealach na Ba road over to Applecross, rising to 2500 ft up hairpin bends and with views over the Western Isles and Skye - Torridon National Trust reserve - Lochcarron - Gairloch - Poolewe - mountains, lochs, sea views, island vistas along the stunning A832 coastal road!
Did we mention whale watching, hillwalking, birdlife, and a culture stretching back thousands of years to the remains of Neolithic houses from 4,000 years ago? No?
Wester Ross has it all...and if you click HERE you can download a (low resolution) PDF of a booklet that was recently produced that takes you on a car journey through Wester Ross from South to North. It has details on individual communities, distances, what to see and do and how to get there. To find out where to stay and what to see while you discover Wester Ross, the Celtic Fringe website has detailed information.
