Urgent Road Information - Spring 2018

(1) If you are coming to visit us during April / May please note that the North Coast 500 Bealach na Ba route to Applecross will be closed for much of this time.  Works are scheduled to start from the 9th of April for approximately six weeks as requested by the local community and this avoids the Easter Break and then the times for the closure will be:

• Gates close and manned at both sides 09:00            • Gates open 16:00
• Gates close and manned at both sides 17:30            • Gates open 23:00 and route accessible

Staff will be at the bottom of the hill at each side with Radios to allow Emergency Vehicles (Ambulance/Fire/Police). And locals who we understand have in times past driven to hospital in an emergency rather than wait for the Ambulance. We will be able to allow these vehicles through during the closure. The road will be open at the weekend but this will be controlled by the use of stop and go traffic management as authorised by Highland Council and there will be minimal delays onsite up to 15mins max.

Also remember that closure of the Bealach could have the effect of significantly increasing traffic on the alternative coastal route, itself with many tight bends and drops – be very careful!

(2) The A832 road into Gairloch from the South is potentially going to be closed for a period of up to 2 weeks (estimated) for essential repairs connected with the stability and safety of a section of this road just to the south of Kerrysdale. The only route into Gairloch will be from the North during this time, and there would be no road connection to Kinlochewe / Loch Maree. Note that the exact situation has still to be confirmed, so check back with this page for updates.
