Communities in Wester Ross:
Small, but perfectly formed, and scattered widely thoughout the area! Probably the best way to show you the region is by a detailed map)....and perhaps a guide to the entire area to take you around, through, across, and over - done! But briefly....Wester Ross consists of.......
Starting in the Southern part of the area - Plockton
Moving Northwards - Lochcarron
In the far west (and actually, slightly further South than Lochcarron) - Applecross
Then we have - Torridon & Kinlochewe
Carrying on through the mountain and lochside scenery - Gairloch and Poolewe
You then go through - Aultbea, and then Laide
Or perhaps you are arriving from the east - coming from Dingwall or Inverness? Then you might visit Strathpeffer first of all!
And finally - In the North of the region, we have the largest community in the area - Ullapool - very nearly a small town. From here there are ferry routes (including cars) across the "Minch" towards the Outer Hebrides, and the Island of Lewis.
We also have local radio stations, local newspapers (all mainly produced by volunteers).
