What's near Corrieshalloch Gorge?
Having stopped at Corrieshalloch Gorge, you possibly have three answers to that question! There's the option to travel East, through the village of Garve, and back to "The Big Smoke" a.k.a. Inverness! But we would prefer you to stay in Wester Ross, of course! That being the case, the options are to travel south towards our other "Big 5" attractions (the first of these being Inverewe Gardens) , or to go North to Ullapool past Lael Forest.
This is about 12 miles, and is a scenic journey alongside Loch Broom for most of its lenght. Ullapool is the largest community in Wester Ross - almost a town, by comparison to all our other villages! As such, there's a full range of accommodation available, along with shops and a supermarket. This is also where you take the ferry across to the Outer Hebrides, landing in Lewis a few hours after leaving Ullapool.
For activities, there's:
- Boat trips from the harbour
- Hill walking around the Ullapool Hill walk circuit (this is a downloadable guide)
- A leisure centre, library
- And a few miles North, Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve & Visitor Centre. This is one of the most important "Earth Science" sites in Scotland, and a key location for geologists the world over.
For more information, look at our Ullapool page on this site. Accomodation can be found before (at Dundonnell) and after Corrieshalloch Gorge (on the Ullapool road and in Ullapool itself). There is also a visitor information centre in Ullapool.
